This is an experimental piece done with, surprise, crayons on cardboard. The initial color was laid down on the board as usual. Then I started heating the cardboard and adding more color on top, using the melting crayon to blend the layers together. More and more layers of color were added to give the image deep, rich colors and texture. Some more layers were done cold then waxed over with hot wax again.
Heating was done on a flat top wood stove by the extremely technical method of slapping the board on the stove and holding it there til my hand got hot, then frantically working on the hot board before it cooled back off again. Never tried this hot wax technique before, so its a bit muddier in places than I'd like, but overall, happy.
