Artist's Comments

A close up shot showing the details in Slayer's face and upper hand. You can even see the tendons in his neck and the ridges in his windpipe.

Slayers hands are made out of 18 gauge wire, bent into position and then wrapped with masking table to provide bulk. The fur and claws were then sculpted over that very solid frame.

His teeth all have wires driven into their cores to give them extra strength.

His ears are woven wire overlaid with masking tape, making them amazingly hard, despite how thin then appear to be.

The fur was sculpted by making thousands upon thousands of individual cuts in the modeling compound, flowing along the lines of natural hair tracts. ApoxieSculpt is slightly elastic, unlike clay, so will tend to pull slightly when you try to cut it. This means when you're trying to create fur, it tends to naturally layer, creating these great textures.

The wood grain on the spear was created by initially painting the spear a flat brown. Then stripes of lighter and darker brown were haphazardly applied to the shaft. While the stripes were still wet you twist your fingers down the shaft, smearing and belding them in whirling patterns.

Thanks. I like to provide info on how it was done since a lot of people seem to consider sculptures pretty mysterious since they can't see what's under the sufrace. A drawing or painting it's pretty obvious what it was done with and what's underneath, sculptures, who knows what lurks in the depths of that werewolf?
